Clinical Study of Cognitive Dysfunction in Subjects with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis

Research subjects for the study ‘Cognitive Dysfunction in ALS’ are being recruited at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center. Six research participants with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) are being recruited for this pilot study combining neuropsychological testing and neuroimaging studies, including MRI of the brain and MEG (magnetoencephalography). The principal investigator is Dr. Sasa Zivkovic. Eligible patients must be at least 18 years or older with a diagnosis of probable or definite ALS. Patients must have had symptoms of ALS for less than 5 years and must have a vital capacity (breathing function) of greater than or equal to 50% of normal. Enrollment is currently in progress.
